Privacy Policy

African Winter Wonderland Corp. (“AWWLAND”, “we”, “us”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organisation registered in New Jersey. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It applies to awwland.org and to the AWWLAND mobile app.
The short version. We collect what we need to run trips and nothing else. We do not sell, rent or trade your information. We run no advertising trackers and set no analytics cookies. You can ask us to show you, correct, export or delete your data at any time, wherever you live.

We do not collect medical or health information. Please do not send it to us through the website, the app or the contact form.
Information collected automatically
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps) for security and troubleshooting. We do not use these to build a profile of you.
What we do not do
- We run no advertising or analytics trackers – no Google Analytics, no advertising pixels, no session recording.
- We set no cookies for visitors who are not signed in. Signing in sets a session cookie so the site can remember you; that is strictly necessary and cannot be switched off without signing out.
- We do not buy personal information from anyone.
3. Payments
Payments are handled by Stripe. When you book, you leave our site for Stripe’s hosted checkout. We never see or store your card number. We record only that a payment was started, its status, and which trip it relates to. Stripe’s handling of your data is governed by Stripe’s privacy policy.
4. Where your information is stored
Account and trip data is stored in Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) on servers in the United States. Contact-form messages are stored in our website database and emailed to us. Our website is hosted by 10Web.
If you are in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, Canada or anywhere outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. We rely on your explicit consent and on the necessity of the transfer to perform our agreement with you.
5. Who can see your information
Access is limited to AWWLAND administrators. Trip leaders and volunteers do not have access to the participant database.
We share information only with the service providers that make the site work – Google (Firebase), Stripe, and our website host – and only to the extent they need it. We will also disclose information if we are legally required to.
We do not sell, rent, trade or otherwise share your personal information for anyone else’s marketing.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your account information until you ask us to delete it. Records we are required to retain for charity accounting and tax purposes – principally payment and donation records – are kept for as long as the law requires, even after your account is closed.
7. Children
Accounts are for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and we do not market to minors.
Under-18s may take part in AWWLAND trips only when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. In that case the parent or guardian books, provides the minor’s details, and consents on their behalf. If you believe a child has given us information directly, email support@awwland.org and we will delete it.
8. Security
Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication; we never see your password. Access to the participant database is restricted to named administrator accounts and enforced by server-side security rules. The site is served over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. For significant changes affecting your rights we will email registered participants.
